TARR HOLDS HEATING ASSISTANCE
AND ENERGY CONSERVATION FORUM
1/7/06
BOSTON-
Senate Minority Whip Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester) said today that he
will be sponsoring
a Heating
Assistance and Energy Conservation Forum on Friday, January 13,
2005 from 9:30-11:30am at the Rose Baker Senior Center in
Gloucester.
Through this
meeting Tarr and co-sponsors Chairman Anthony Verga (D-Gloucester)
and Representative Bradford Hill (R-Ipswich) seek to inform
residents of the many programs available to them to assist with
rising home heating costs and winterization.
“Rising
energy costs are proving to be a real challenge for many
households and colder weather this winter could worsen that
situation,” commented Tarr who is ranking minority member of the
Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy Committee. “I’ve been
pleased as a co-sponsor to see the HEAT bill pass, making needed
resources available to respond to this situation. For those
resources to be effective, however, people need to know what they
are and how to access them,” he added.
Representatives from Action Energy in Gloucester will be in
attendance to answer questions regarding various fuel assistance
and winterization programs. Action Inc. is a non-profit
organization that distributes heating assistance to eligible
residents in Essex, Gloucester, Hamilton, Ipswich, Manchester,
Rockport and Wenham. Representatives from the Massachusetts
Department of Housing and Community Development, the Division of
Energy Resources, the Division of Telecommunications and Energy,
and Massachusetts Electric Company have also been invited to
attend, provide information and answer questions.
“This
forum is designed not only to assist with immediate issues of
affordability, but also to explore options for cost-effective home
improvements that will reduce consumption and promote energy
independence,” added Tarr.
Constituents who are
not able to attend the meeting are invited to contact Senator Tarr
at 617-722-1600 for further assistance and information.
